Fishing report August 2026

August was a month of highs and lows on the River Naver. Early rainfall lifted river levels and sparked some excellent fishing, with 63 salmon and grilse landed in the first week of the month and a further 62 the following week. Fresh fish entered the system and catches were recorded throughout the river, providing some of the season’s best sport.

As the month progressed, water levels fell steadily and fishing became increasingly difficult. Despite plenty of fish being seen throughout the river, catches dropped sharply as conditions remained low and settled. Week 32 produced 15 fish, while the final week of August saw just a single grilse landed.

The standout fish of the month was a magnificent 21lb salmon landed at Dal Mallart, while Syre rods also enjoyed some memorable sport during the better conditions earlier in the month.

In total, 141 salmon and grilse and 11 sea trout were reported during August. By month end the seasonal catch stood at 497 salmon and grilse, well ahead of the same point in 2025. With fish still present throughout the system, hopes remain high for a strong finish to the season should autumn rainfall arrive.
